TEDxBrum: Creative Director
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBrum, where x = independently organised TED event. At our TEDxBrum event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised. This independent TEDx event is operated under licence from TED.
Birmingham’s inaugural TEDx event took place on Saturday 24th March 2012 at the mac, birmingham. The theme was ‘The Next Revolution’, and the event brought the TED spirit of ‘ideas worth spreading’ to our city for the very first time, igniting a passion for spreading ideas in local communities and beyond. The event sparked deep conversations and connections, bringing together people from different backgrounds from across the city to inspire both thought and action.
The second TEDx Brum event was held on June 8th 2013 at Millennium Point, and built on the success of the first TEDxBrum with the theme 'Marking the Map' and my role was Director of the CreaTEDx strand.
The CreaTEDx strand aimed to create an interesting, considered creative programme that complimented our lecture programme and challenged our delegates at TEDxBrum to think differently. The creaTEDx strand featured Polarbear, The Mistakings, Barbara Nice and SeaSickSoul. The foyer creaTEDx stage was programmed by BOA Gold Arts Award students and featured music, visual arts, poetry and performance. CreaTEDx provided a platform for emerging artists as well as those more established.
